Brazilian Mitigation Scenarios Beyond 2020: Modelling and Methodologies

This brief lays out key research and modelling work that will allow for robust analysis of the economic and social implications of implementing carbon constraining measures on the Brazilian economy. This brief shows the impacts of a carbon tax on heavy industries specifically, and the economic ramifications of different revenue ‘recycling’ options.

Economy-wide implications of a carbon tax in the Chilean electricity generation sector

Certain mitigation actions will act as an economic shock to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth path. This policy brief examines the economy-wide implications of applying a carbon tax to the country’s electricity generation section. The report evaluates carbon taxes of US$10, US$20, US$30, US$40 and US$50 per ton of carbon dioxide equivalents (US$/tCO2 […]

Modelling the socio economic implications of mitigation actions in Colombia

This policy brief explores the possible social and economic implications of three different emissions reduction measures: placing a tax on carbon emission, capping the allowable amount of emissions from different sectors, changing the country’s energy mix (either to include more renewables, or replacing fossil fuels with cleaner electricity). It also considers how these measures might […]

Agroforestry systems as CER providers: an analysis for the Peruvian Amazon region

This policy brief considers the findings of a modelling process carried out by the Instituto de Investigación de la Amazonía Peruana (IIAP) team, which compares the economic value of timber felling practices in agroforestry plots in Peru, with the potential financial benefits of using global carbon trading mechanisms to compensate the country for projects which […]

Linking Sectoral Models: Agroforestry Systems as CER providers: An analysis for the Peruvian amazon region

This paper examines agroforestry systems as certified emissions reductions for the Peruvian Amazon region. It describes the findings of a modeling-based research, which compares the economic value of timber felling practices in agroforestry plots in Peru, with the potential financial benefits of using global carbon trading mechanisms

Information for a developmental approach to mitigation: Linking sectoral and economy-wide models for Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and South Africa

This paper reports on modelling approaches that provide information to answer policy-relevant questions in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and South Africa. The analysis informs different country contexts; energy-related green house gas (GHG) emissions currently dominate in Chile and South Africa, while those due to agriculture, forestry and land-use (AFOLU) are historically more important in Brazil, […]

EconLab 2: The socio-economic implications of mitigation actions

From the 23rd to the 25th of October 2013, researchers from five developing countries gathered in Rio de Janeiro, to discuss joint progress on modelling the socio-economic implications of mitigation actions for their respective countries. They were brought together by a CDKN-funded project to further research in this field. The workshop, entitled EconLab 2, was […]
